History and Location

From the Windsor Historical Society:

The globe shaped monument located at the intersection of Deerfield Rd and Windsor Ave is a World War II monument that was dedicated on June 18, 1944. The horizontal panel circling the globe was originally covered in bronze lettering listing an honor roll that included the names of 115 Deerfield residents then serving in the war. It was designed by Walter Hanna, a wood-working instructor at the, then existent, Deerfield School.

By the early 1990s many of the names had fallen off the monument. In 1993 the corner that the monument stands on was renovated, the monument was restored and the remaining lettering was removed from the globe, replaced by a plaque added to the front of it listing the names of those who served and those who built the monument. In 2004 there were renewed concerns about the monument’s deterioration, although it still stands today.
