Our Christmas Eve Tradition

Growing up in my family, I loved Christmas, of course. But what I loved more was Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve we were allowed to open one present from under the tree. Choosing just one present was by no means an easy decision for a child full of excitement like I was. Sometimes that choice could turn horribly wrong. Like the year I chose Aunt Jean’s gift to open. Grandad and Walter Brennan

As I was sitting up late one night tucked into our family room couch with my computer, I was multi-tasking as I usually do by doing some “light” genealogy while I watched TV.  A movie came on called  “Bad Day at Black Rock” from 1955 starring Spencer Tracy. I’m a pretty big fan of Spencer Tracy so I was surprised I hadn’t seen this one before. To my delight, the supporting cast included Walter Brennan. Walter was a big deal back in the day. Windsor Connecticut World War I – Roll of Honor Memorial

History and Location In September of 1917 The Windsor Men’s Association began a Roll of Honor “book” which was made of wood in front of Windsor Town with a painted list of names of Windsor citizens who had responded to the patriotic call and were in service. Names were added as more men (and women) entered into the war effort. In 1920 it was replaced with a bronze tablet and originally hung inside of Town Hall. The #RootsTech 2019 excitement is beginning! Registration opens in just SIX DAYS on September 20th for the largest family history conference happening February 27–March 2, 2019, in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am thrilled and honored to have been asked back to be an official RootsTech Ambassador. I’ll be giving a free pass away to RootsTech 2019 to some lucky someone coming up in the next month or so.
